New tabs load for a very long time then it all works as usual

When I open for the first time Brave, new tabs load for about 1-2 minutes, then if I try to open again new tabs they open in a very fast way. I have a 1 Gigabit connection speed through wire and I’ve also tried to startup Brave with no extension enabled and I encounter the same problem.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Everytime that I open Brave for the first time.
  2. Open new tabs
  3. That’s it

Expected result: tabs loading takes the correct amount of time to load (1sec<)

Brave Version( check About Brave): Versione 1.64.109 Chromium: 123.0.6312.58 (Build ufficiale) (a 64 bit)

When you restore tabs from a previous session they are reloaded so that they are instantly available when you select a tab. You can prevent that with this extension. Tabs will load when you activate them instead of at startup:

Thanks for your advice, but rather than using an extension I’d like brave browser to work as it should. I have my problem only on first time that I open brave and open new tabs, after the first time that it loads the problem disappear until I close Brave and reopen it.
I’d like a fix to work directly on brave and not an external tool like in this case an extension.
Anyway sorry for any grammatical mistake, english isn’t my native language.

It’s unlikely that this will be changed, as it would ideally be done in the upstream project, and they’re not interested in doing it. Here’s a request from 2016, to “Load only the pages which are required and not every one at the same time”. Comment 21 says “Work is under way…,” but that was 7 years ago, and only relates to the “every one at the same time” part.

In 2019 someone made 2 requests, including the recommendation that “Chrome doesn’t load all tabs while restoring the previous session.” That one was ignored, the other request was implemented.

The issue was raised again in 2020 - “Opening Chrome with all the tabs discarded would mean that they would need a lot less RAM both when starting and when using the browser without loading all those tabs” - but it was closed after a year of inactivity.

The extension needs no special permissions, does not reside in memory when not in use, and is only a few lines of code. Brave starts up instantly when the extension is running, and uses very little memory even when lots of tabs have been restored.
