Description of the issue:

Every time I open a new tab the background image is not what the Settings are set to “Blank page” but rather I get an advert of something pretty weird. Unknown to me, at least.
How can this issue be reproduced?

Opening a new tab

Expected result:

A blank page.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

Version 1.69.162 Chromium: 128.0.6613.120 (Official Build) (arm64)

Additional Information:

This is happening on a literally new MacBookPro. Freshly wiped, downloaded Brave just yesterday.

@Mordo,
Just to confirm, in Settings --> Get started you’ve set this option to Blank page?

I can confirm it’s actually set to dashboard but the way I’ve customized it should not look like what I am getting. The advert has now changed.

This (first screenshot)

is how it should look like and yet every time I open a new one, bam!

@Mordo terminology used can cause confusion. Such as on your original post you said you have it set to Blank Page but then showed a screenshot of your Dashboard. This is what led Mattches to ask about the settinz`g.

Now that it’s confirmed you’re using Dashboard and not Blank Page the rest makes sense. What you have shown in your pictures is what is called Sponsored Images, which also are sometimes called NTP ads or New Tab Takeovers. If you have Brave Rewards enabled and connected to a custodial partner, you are earning BAT for those. In any case, you can disable it in your settings. The same place in customization where you chose which color background you want has the toggle for Sponsored Images. Just scroll to the very bottom and you’ll see the toggle, such as below:
