New PC, Reconnecting Gemini issues

Saw another post where it “should be working on the backend” for them even though they can’t connect. Just curious if there is something I can do to make the new PC work (I still have access to the old one)

Briefly describe your issue:
Built a new PC. I installed Brave (it did launch after install, but closed it), and copied over the entire User Data folder (renamed the one the installer created) from the old PC (that was the only thing in the Brave-Browser folder). Launched, had all my bookmarks and such. Went to the wallet page and used my passphrase to reconnect my Brave Wallet. When I go to Connect Account on rewards, Gemini is still grayed out. I’ve had Gemini for a while and had plenty of rewards go to it over the past year or more. Still works on the old PC. Is there something else I need to copy over?

What Operating System and Brave version are you using (Menu --> About Brave)?
Windows 10
Version 1.64.109 Chromium: 123.0.6312.58 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Is your Brave Rewards Profile currently verified? (yes/no)
it was on the old pc

What date did you connect a your Brave Rewards Profile?
I don’t know, I’ve had it at least a couple years I think.

Have you been able to successfully receive payments in the past?
yes

Are you using a VPN? (yes/no)
no

Are you in a supported region (see here for list of supported regions)?
I was (I’m in the US)

Ended up submitting a ticket for this.

Probably the best thing you can do. Main issue here is that Gemini isn’t supported for new devices/profiles. I know in the past it would/could transfer your Rewards over if you replaced the User Data or \Brave-browser folders prior to opening Brave. But not sure if it still works that way. Also know that they would have generally needed to be the same version of Brave.

Guess might be interesting to see what you can find out.

Btw, in terms of this, you might have a workaround as long as it acknowledges your Rewards profile as being previously connected. Go to brave://flags and turn on Always show Brave Rewards custodial connection options. It will allow you to attempt to login, but as stated, it won’t let you connect if that Rewards profile hadn’t previously been linked.

The flag did the trick, it’s now connected. Thank you so much!

I have the very same issue. I had to reformat today. I made 100% certain Brave was 100% updated before my reformat and I made certain all sync stuff was in order. I grabbed the brave-browser folder and stored it safely.

I did some PC magic, got back to desktop some time later and reinstalled Brave. I then made certain it was 100% up to date and dropped my secured folder back in afterwards.

Now this option provided removed the greyed out issue but now I am getting a regional error telling me my Gemini account can not be connected and needs a custodial account as it is in a region not supported. My Gemini account is registered to me right dead center of the USA. I don’t get no more regional approved than that.

Any options available for me besides fiddling around with yet another wallet that I really do not want nor need?

Thanks.

A ticket can gladly be opened as well if needs be. I have no issues doing that at all. But is that on Brave’s end or Gemini? Gemini clearly knows I live in the USA.

Actually the US is not approved anymore, but there is a workaround if you already had it connected. Going into brave://flags and making the change that Saoiray suggested fixed it for me.

I did do that and it removed the greyed out part over Gemini and acted like it was going to allow me to Login and then it gave me the region error.

It still says on their website USA is ok. Maybe it needs updated or I read the wrong place. Either way, I don’t have it in me to get another wallet going for $1.74 a month. It’s just not worth it.

It says USA but for Creators only

Probably should just hold out for on chain payments as it’s what they are really pushing towards now anyway. Recent issues with Solana has delayed invitations for next group, but should still be happening in 2024.

Just to make sure I’m seeing this right, let’s go over the steps and make sure

  • You moved a copy of your /brave-browser folder to an external drive

  • You reformatted your computer

  • Downloaded Brave

  • Then you replaced the /brave-browser folder in your new installation (preferably before ever opening/launching).

  • Rewards wasn’t enabled and you can’t link to Gemini, even if you enable it via brave://flags. And you made 100% sure you didn’t enable Rewards and end o up creating a new profile prior to moving the folder over?

I know it used to work that way. Pretty sure it’s still supposed to work as well, but might have to reach out to Brave again to see if any changes been made that I haven’t been paying attention to.

I am all setup as a Brave Creator as well. I have my personal website linked as well as my YouTube channel (if that is what they are referring to).

And yeah, I followed the steps just as you have pointed out. No new profiles no nothing. And I made certain I moved my backup folder in place before ever opening up Brave after the new install.

I found a thread here in the community that was pretty cut and dry as far as what to do. I followed the procedure to the T and this is where I sit as we speak.

Things happen form time to time and I am a little calmer than I was on my last time around trouble wise. It’s all good. Maybe I do need to hold out for whatever that deal is you are speaking of (??). It’s all good either way. I appreciate you taking the time to reply and help out.

@DjPorkchop you might want to check out PSA: Current and upcoming changes to Rewards and Creators where I briefly touch on things and provide links to official announcements.

The short version is what I’m speaking of is where we get paid directly to any crypto wallet we want, whether it be Brave Wallet or elsewhere. No KYC/AML required. It’s something they are pushing out and is something you should already see as an option for your Creators account.

I’ll take a look at it. I really appreciate it.

My wife told me in the mean time to use Revo uninstaller and uninstall Brave and do a clean reboot and reinstall brave and try the clean backup 1 more time. I was shocked she suggested that since I pretty much had to teach her how to turn on a PC lol Anyhow, worth a try first or no and wait it out? Oh and I will get in to my creators account and nose around. It has been a hot minute since I logged in.

And in the down time I can just shut ads off so I stop getting notification popups until it gets resolved? And I did login to creators and I am 100% connected to Gemini. I just never added any wallets apparently.

So I figured out what exactly happened here. When I backed up my brave folder, for some odd reason, It never copied over the user data folder. Everything was accounted for in the backup but that folder. Not sure what but it is what it is. Oh well, I will wait for the new features to roll out that we are waiting on I suppose. I guess next time I am making backups, I will check my files closer before hitting the nuke button. Thanks for the help fellas. Much appreciated.
