My vanity domain no longer directly connects through the address bar

Description of the issue:
I used to be able to type in the address bar “fights.today” which is an actual url. https://fights.today

Now it goes directly to a search engine for the term “fights.today” instead of attempting to connect through www.fights.today or one of http or https for the same.

Exact URL of the website in question:
fights.today

Did the issue present with default Shields settings? (yes/no)

It only started recently. It will bring me to my default search provider. But other domains that are not .com work properly like m3u.guide for instance, which is another url I own.

Does the site function as expected when Shields are turned off?

No, it’s not a site issue either it’s an URL resolving issue

Is there a specific Shields configuration that causes the site to break? If so, tell us that configuration. (yes/no):
No

Does the site work as expected when using Chrome?
Yes

Brave version (check About Brave):
Latest on IOS (iPhone) for sure, but may be present in others

Suggestion: That you visit all of the Brave Browser (iOS) Settings pertaining to Search Engines, and detail/report the various switch settings, here. Example list:

  • Standard Tab: ________
  • Private Tab: ________

Quick Search Engines [Enabled / Disabled] for each:

  • Bing
  • DuckDuckGo
  • Ecosia
  • Google
  • Qwant
  • Startpage

And [Enabled/Disabled] for each:

  • Show Search Suggestions
  • Show Recent Search
  • Show Browser Suggestions

And consider the various Brave Shields & Privacy settings that take effect, when clearing cache, cookies, site data.

Maybe you need to enable the switches and Clear Data Now - ie clean house.

Standard tab is set to bing - but I can switch to any search engine and it behaves the same. As mentioned this doesn’t apply to other domains with non standard .suffix and also has only started recently.

Shield up or down does not matter. Same behaviour, defaults to search instead of attempting to resolve the .today address.

I have no other non standard setting applied

This should automatically attempt https://fights.today instead goes straight to search engine “fights.today” - but typing fights.today into any other browser behaves appropriately.

And it’s in my history for sure I visit it all the time. Something recently they did changed this behaviour and my sites impacted. As mentioned I got other non standard .domains like “m3u.guide” these have no issues, they don’t go to search, they go directly to the site as expected, and those don’t even have https or ssl - it will go though as expected.

Chrome iOS behaves as expected. As do all other browsers. Brave desktop appears to work fine but mobile is not.

@futurepr0n,
This is likely due to the following issue, which has already been fixed and should be applied in the next browser update:

To be honest, it’s not bookmarked for me - yeah I’m a bad web admin what can I say. But yeah, I would suggest exploring further - like - I don’t know, giving it a shot replicating the steps I am providing.

Can anyone on iOS with Brave confirm that typing “fights.today” without the quotes, non bookmarked results in going to the search page or resolves to my domain?

Thank you very much - appreciate you’re testing for me @Saoiray

Not sure why it’s always working this way for me perhaps the update mentioned above was not yet pushed out. Will consider it isolated to me only. Again, thanks for testing for me.
