My site is on the Brave block list. Please can I have it removed

My website cafesaxophone.com (now edited to correct URL) is on the Brave adblock list. Can I please have it removed as I see no reason for it to be listed. Or can somebody at Brave please tell me if there is anything specific I need to do to have it removed

Thank you!

@PeteThomas what you’re showing is the “unbreak” list. That means it’s websites that are trying to block people from using the website. So if your list is there, it means you tried to prevent people from using the website if they are using Brave, especially while Shields are active.

Brave never blocks any website, but they will block ads and trackers.

Also, you do realize the website you provided and the one in that list are different right? You’re claiming to be saxophone.com while that one on the list is cafesaxophone.com.

Sorry the autocorrect split the word Cafesaxophone in two and I didn’t notice until after it was posted and was unable to edit while pending approval.

My site is Cafesaxophone.com and I have now edited the OP.

The thing is we do not try to stop people using the website or from using Brave. I wouldn’t even know how to do that. I sometimes use Brave myself it’s a great browser.

All i want is for it to work properly like any other site using the xenForo software.

We are losing users when they find they are unable to post or navigate the site. Some do not know about shields so they just think the site is broken.

How so? I just went and can navigate the site with absolutely no issues. But I do see that there’s a difference in how it navigates. With Shields enabled, it is more traditional where clicking on your links goes to the next page.

Then with Shields off, it creates popup scripts on the same page to see the same exact information. I’m not sure if there’s anything in that latter part that would have trackers or anything that Brave deems as a privacy issue.

So I can get that appearance can differ, but no issues on accessing content or interacting with your site overall as far as I can tell. That said, I’ll tag in @Mattches and @fanboynz to see if either might be able to answer better on the difference(s).

And then I tested with Shields off. I do see the same content loads, but your default is in an annoying popup format

You are correct regarding the full width desktop view and your screenshot shows the full navigation. But on Brave mobile a standard hamburger style should show, but instead it shows the desktop style navigation but there is only room for the first two items and the site logo is missing. This works perfectly on other browsers and on Brave only with Shields down.

The popup is standard on all xenForo sites

For example the post thread button on https://xenforo.com/community/ opens that same style of popup.

However the main (huge) issue is for logged in users they cannot post or reply as the reply box text field is missing.

Here is what members should see to post a thread, ie there is a text editor like this one I’m typing in now.

With Brave (Shields Up) there is no text editor to type in, just the attach files button that is normally death the text editor.

I just replied at some length and my post seems to have disappeared ???

Might be caught up in the spam filter. If Mattches swings by from my tagging him he may be able to take a look to see if can find there.

Ah yes, I did post a link to the xenForo site as an example of the popup button being standard default xenForo, maybe that triggered a spam filter. However xenForo is now probably the leading most used forum software in the World, or very close.

If it’s OK I’ll post a shorter version:

The navigation issue is on the mobile browser, you should see the difference and the problem.

But the biggest issue is that people cannot make a post as the text editor is missing with Brave default (Shields Up). All other xenForo sites I can find do not have that issue and it’s literally a bit of a showstopper.

If you can retrieve my post you’ll see the screenshots.

Yeah looks like a Shields issue. I’ll go ahead and cc @fanboynz to take a look — should be able to resolve the issue.

Thank you very much

Thank you very much. I’m happy to supply you with whatever information you need and let you know whatever plugins there may be beyond default xenForo as the last thing I want to do is track users - we just want to foster a creative and trusting community.

Thanks all for looking into this.

@fanboynz Just noticed your screenshots which seem to be from 2018 and may be from an old old plugin and I had no idea it was showing that kind of message about adblockers.

So the Anti-adblock message no longer shows?

Absolutely not. We had a different admin in 2018 and I don’t know anything about what happened back then. You can see for yourself there is no such message and it’s not something I would want anyway. If you like I’m happy to give you a temporary admin access and you’re welcome to see what addons we use, none of which do any advertising or tracking.

Will update thread when confirmed upstream
