Login to Threads and Instagram fail at 2FA step (resulted in account suspension)

Description of the issue: I attempted to login to threads.net via Instagram, and was redirected to the Instagram login page. I tried to log into Instagram via Facebook, and that failed. I tried Instagram via username and password, and reached the 2FA step, but never received the SMS with the code. I clicked the “resend code” link multiple times, with Shields enabled and disabled. After multiple attempts over a short while, my Instagram (and thus Threads) accounts were suspended for violation of TOS, with no details. I was restored a few days later with no details other than “you didn’t actually break TOS, sorry.” I’m timid about doing any further debugging, given what happened.

If you're experiencing difficulties logging into Threads or Instagram due to a 2FA (two-factor authentication) step resulting in an account suspension, follow these steps:

  1. Contact Instagram Support: Visit the Instagram Help Center and report the issue. Provide any relevant details, such as your account information and the error message you're receiving.
  2. Verify Identity: If requested, verify your identity to regain access to your account. This may involve providing additional information to confirm your identity.
  3. Reset 2FA: If necessary, reset your two-factor authentication settings. This can usually be done through your account settings or by contacting support for assistance.
  4. Secure Your Account: After regaining access, review your account security settings to ensure your account is secure. Enable two-factor authentication if you haven't already.

By following these steps, you should be able to resolve the login issue and regain access to your Threads and Instagram accounts.
