The expected behavior is that it counts down from 48 hours. So I requested removal, and waited two days, watching the counter go down to near zero hours remaining.
However, it seems to have passed zero, and is now counting up and I still don’t have access to my account. It showed 7 hours remaining, and now it’s up to 19 hours…
UPDATE: I just re-checked:

about 23 hours remaining
This is a blocking issue. I’m effectively locked out of my account.
