I’ve recently migrated to brave as my browser and am trying to avoid google as my search engine.
However, I am having trouble with getting good local search results, and I’m wondering if I have missed a step to set this up better. I’m not having much luck searching for answers on this, so I thought I’d reach out directly to the community.
I am based in New Zealand. I have manually set my anonymous location to my town, my search location is set to New Zealand and “localized results” is on.
But if I search for something, I largely get australian, american and other foreign results. E.g. if I search “18mm garden hose,” I only get 2 New Zealand results right at the bottom of the page. The rest are for australian web-stores.
If I search for “x restaurant” (in my town, using their business name), the first results are American restaurants - further down the page for the local business.
Out of the box, google does do a much better job of giving me more relevant results, for these relatively boring but day-to-day search engine tasks.
Are there settings I’m missing? Is this an issue because I live in a small town in a small country?
