Description of the issue:
How can this issue be reproduced?
- Launch Brave
- Tap on Lastpass icon in toolbar
- Extension window does not open. A tiny empty window appears beneath Lastpass icon
Expected result:
Lastpass extension window with vault search opens if Lastpass is logged in (red icon).
Lastpass login window opens if Lastpass not logged in (black icon)
Brave Version( check About Brave
):
v1.78.102 (May 15, 2025)
Additional Information:
This bug has been true for all the Brave versions I have used since beginning to use it 6 months ago. It happened on Windows 10 and now on Windows 11. It appears to be like what happened around July 2024 (v 1.67.123). The reported repair appears not to be working anymore. The bug has cropped up at various times over the past 6 years(!)
Workaround:
- Tap Extensions icon in toolbar
- Tap on Lastpass “More Options” (3-dots)
- Tap “Manage Extension” (Extensions tab loads in Brave)
- Tap slider button to turn extension OFF.
- Immediately tap slider button to turn extension ON
- Close Extensions tab in Brave
- Now tapping on Lastpass icon in toolbar produces expected results.
Do you have any other extensions installed at this time? I ask because I can’t think of anything that would be causing this behavior, especially since I’ve used LP in Brave for years now and have never once had an issue with it. Just now tested on Win11 to make sure:
If you were to install LastPass in another browser like MS Edge, do you see the same behavior there?
Greetings Mattches,
The only other extension I have installed is One Tab. I could turn it off to see if that makes any difference?
I have Lastpass extension installed on Edge, Firefox, DuckDuckGo. I have never seen this behaviour on any other browser except Brave.
I would try disabling that extension, yes.
Done! I will report back no later than 1 week, or when the bug manifests itself.
I’ve never gone longer than a week without Lastpass freezing in Brave.
Well, it happened just now. No other extensions active except LastPass.
The behaviour is exactly like in the past. The workaround I discovered was successful.
I don’t see any way to attach screenshots, but I took one and annotated it.
If I learn how to attach it, I will do so. I’m open to instruction on this!
Since turning off One Tab extension didn’t prevent LastPass from seizing up, I’m turning it back on. At least the workaround I figured out reliably squashes the bug every time it happens. Annoying, but quick and easy to do!
I’m trying to drag and drop the screen-capture .PNG file into this post. It shows what the bug looks like when it happens. To me it seems unpredictable, but there may be some underlying pattern I’m missing.
