Is there any way to allow Brave to load pages in the background?

The inability for Brave to load pages in the background is killing my battery and my stoke. Is there any way to let brave load a page without the app having to be in the foreground? Ironically it’s killing my battery because I have to keep it open with the screen on.

We do already, except for youtube video. If you stream spotify, apple music, tidal, soundcloud in a background tab it will continue playing.

I could not care less about media. I just want the web page to load without me having to stare at the progress

@Ball It has been a while since I’ve used Android but pretty sure it worked similar to how it is on my iPhone. Just press and hold for the link and tell it to open in new tab. On my iPhone, it then opens the tab in the background and I stay on the current page. I just switch to the new tab when I want to view it.

But this should be using the same amount of power and all. I’m not quite sure what you’re speaking of overall as you talk about it killing your battery. The battery just would be getting used up from you touching the screen, using data to open links, etc.

I’m not taking about loading a web page in another tab. I’m taking about loading a page when the app, THE BROWSER, is not in the foreground! I can’t even turn off the display or quickly change to and from another app without all connections dying. The only way to load a page is to keep the app in the foreground, screen on, battery draining.

Memory saver will sleep unused background tabs.

It can be configured in brave://settings/system. Brave won’t sleep tabs any different than Chrome. Might be better on Brave since we use less system resources.

I have 32G Ram, and still use it on "Balanced". But if you want to add specific websites to not sleep, there is that option too.

This has absolutely nothing to do with tabs. This is a problem with zero tabs.

Ah, I get it now. Phrasing was a bit tough. But you’re just speaking of like if you’re in Facebook app or some other, to open a web link from there that would open in Brave but without it switching to Brave.

I’m not aware of such an option right now and think there would be some limitations based on OS. But guess it’s a good question and one to run by Mattches and others to see if they know of anything. But since this isn’t quite an option in Chrome or anything either (that I’m aware of), I’m guessing it would be a lot of work and perhaps better handled upstream via like a Chromium request or something.

@Saoiray thank you for clarifying — I just wrote out a whole response trying to get clarity and understand what is being asked.

Assuming @Saoiray’s interpretation of the issue is correct, then this is an OS limitation (and operation) rather than a browser limitation/operation. The OS knows the default browser app you use and when you tap on a link it’s going to open that app directly. You will see this behavior in all other browsers.

This works the other way too, for example if you set your default email app to one on your device (let’s say the “Gmail” app) and tap an email address link in separate application (like Discord, Slack, MMS, etc), it will launch the Gmail app in the foreground.

If there were a way to change this behavior, it would be in the Android OS settings — however, I do not see any way to do this other than installing a third party application that lets you adjust/control link handling on your device.

Brave’s background loading issue is draining your battery. Try adjusting settings, using Reader Mode, or switching browsers like Firefox or Chrome. Check battery settings and ensure Spotify premium isn’t consuming too much power. Contact Brave support if needed.
