Is there a way to have the right click search for selected text via "search Google for 'text'" open in a background tab?

As an example, when finding text on a site I would like to search, I highlight it, right click, and select “search Google for ‘selected text’” it opens and switches to a new tab. Is there a way to have the new tab stay in the background?

I know you can do that with links, but I can’t find any documentation talking about selected text.

@Nav007 it kind of works just like you’re clicking a link on a website. Hold Ctrl as you click on Search Google for.... and it will open in a new tab and remain in the background.

So options are:

  • Hold Ctrl while clicking and it opens in new tab in the background.

  • Hold Shift while clicking and it will open in a new window (but appears on top)

  • And as you know, just click without holding any buttons and it opens in new tab but then switches to that tab
