Is Brave now blocking RT?

Hi,
first I thought it was Startpage, but after removing Startpage when I to to RT a page appears with:

Your connection is not private

Attackers might be trying to steal your information from www.rt.com (for example, passwords, messages, or credit cards). Learn more

NET::ERR_CERT_COMMON_NAME_INVALID

Access to RT is blocked.
Since this started last evening I use the VPN that came with my Malwarebytes AV to have access to RT. With Google.com I have to log in every time before using it, it looks like.

I know very little about these things. So I don’t know what is causing this sudden change. And maybe Brave is right about RT not being secure. But via a proxy I get the https address.

I’m not having a problem accessing that site in the latest Brave. Are you still having problems, even after restarting Brave? What if you clear site data? After restarting your whole computer?

If so, then that suggests that you are being redirected to another website, and not the actual rt.com. I’d check your addons that might affect the page (adblockers, script blockers, etc.). And I’d also consider checking for malware if you can’t find anything else.

Thank you for your response.

The issue is resolved. I don’t know that caused the issue nor what fixed it. As said, it began last evening (Amsterdam time) and when posting about it here this morning it was still there.

I informed Startpage and RT of it.
Glad to find out just now that I need no proxy anymore to get there.

(An honest judge hears both parties in a conflict, not just one of the two. So besides from the Western MSM I also want to know what the other side -in this case RT- has to say.)

It’s back. From the Advanced info given by Brave:

www.rt.com normally uses encryption to protect your information. When Brave tried to connect to www.rt.com this time, the website sent back unusual and incorrect credentials. This may happen when an attacker is trying to pretend to be www.rt.com, or a Wi-Fi sign-in screen has interrupted the connection. Your information is still secure because Brave stopped the connection before any data was exchanged.

You cannot visit www.rt.com right now because the website uses HSTS. Network errors and attacks are usually temporary, so this page will probably work later.

When I really feel like it I can still go to RT via de VPN…

@LodeHere loads fine on my end. Are you typing in the web address directly or you clicking something that directs you there? And is it only happening on particular articles or for all of the site?

What you’re sharing is that it seems HTTPS certificate isn’t correct and therefore it’s not sending through. I’m wondering if there’s a relay between rather than just directly on the site and it’s that redirect that has an issue.

And now everything is normal again. Using my regular IP and tapping on the RT icon among all the others at the top of Brave immediately RT shows up.

Feels like spooky action at a distance… :joy:

Yeah, not relevant to the topic and often leads to distractions. Bigger issue is where usually attracts others who like to argue.

As to this part, likely would be @Mattches and/or @fanboynz who would have to troubleshoot with you. It’s definitely weird that it seems intermittent.

Part of me was wondering if it’s doing an autocomplete when you type it in and it’s directing to a link that’s “broken.” But then for you to say happens from Search link too, not sure if there is something more to it.

It’s likely something on their end — possible a certificate issue. Right now the site works fine but I would expect to see it fluctuate in the future.

@LodeHere The next time this happens to you in Brave, please open another browser and test to see if the site has issues in that browser as well. This will help tell us whether or not the issue is specific to the site itself or originating in Brave.

Thank you for the tip. Right now at this moment of writing everything works fine. But if the issue returns I might download-install Chrome for example. Just to test it with RT. Of course I’ll report the results here if it happens.

It’s happening again. Now also with Chrome after downloading-installing and testing with that browser.
But with my VPN I get there. (New York right now, even though I’m typing this with  from Amsterdam.)
