Is Brave based on both on Firefox and Chromium?

Chromium.

They tried it with firefox (gecko) but then they discontinued it due their requirements.

They still mention Firefox when you click ‘About’:

Version 1.36.122 Chromium: 99.0.4844.88 (Official Build) (64-bit)

Brave is made available to you under the Mozilla Public License 2.0 (MPL) and includes open source software under a variety of other licenses.

I think based on Chrome.

I was puzzled when I was this:
brave-based-if-chrome

Brave claimed that they don’t trace the users’ browsing. I wonder if they don’t when I saw the above. Anyone has better insight in that?

Kindly appreciate it if someone can enlighten me.

thank you

That is reference to the license or patent of the browser. There are many such license popular like GPL, MPL, Apache, MIT.

You are confusing a few things here.

The reference to the mozilla license has nothing to do with the browser or on engine the browser is created.

??

It says chrome://newtab referencing to the underlying chromium rendering engine. It has mothing to with chrome browser.

The chrome://newtab is not harmful.
