iPad w/ Keyboard Cursor Movement when opening new tabs

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue:

When using a 2021 iPad Pro with a Smart Keyboard, you can create new tabs with a keyboard command shortcut. The keyboard command shortcut does not move the cursor at the same time, so you have to additionally press into the box you want to type in. It would be really cool if the new tab shorcut would move the cursor to the location bar so you can begin typing an address like Brave does in its macOS app.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Press CMD+T to create a new tab on an iPad Pro with a keyboard (conceivably any iPad with keyboard.)
  2. You have to touch the location bar at the top of the screen or press CMD+L to move the cursor to the location bar.

Expected result:

The location bar has a blinking cursor in it after creating a new tab.

Additional Information:

@ryanstrug,
Thank you for reaching out to us. Interesting issue you’re highlighting here – I feel as though it should behave the same way. For what it’s worth, you should be able to use Cmd + L to jump focus to the address bar.

I will reach out to the iOS team about the behavior.
