(iOS issue) Youtube videos won’t load in brave playlist

And I guess also should ask if you have any other thoughts on this? Video they shared of issue happening to them was linked. Not sure what follow-up they had on questions, but yeah…

Oh, and @Kirks sorry but I guess also should have asked. Are you doing this on your mobile data or Wi-Fi?

@Saoiray I did the screen recording with Yours setting but both settings gives same results.

In SettingsMedia I had Highest Quality Playback set to Off but check with On and no luck.

I appreciate any and all of Your help and please don’t feel guilty of such reason. Working Playlist is very important to me but I’m still with some patience.

@Saoiray I usually use Wi-Fi but just checked on mobile and same problem.

And to be safe after changing setting I do restart Brave.

As for the issue, not clear why it’s happening as this was an old issue that has since been closed. Asking iOS team about this now.

I have a hunch that it has something to do with “Web Compatibility (Disables the WebKit MediaSource API)” which is now missing from settings (which was previously necessary for me to use Playlist for YT).
Especially because I have same problem on fresh install of iOS and Brave.

I really run out of ideas settings I now tend to blame European Union as I’m unfortunately living there :slight_smile:

But I also tested it with VPN to visit YT from different countries and it’s still not working.

I just wanted to report that after upgrading to 1.76 (77) I was able to Save Offline Data or just watch video in playlist for just two out of many YT videos I’ve tried.
After upgrading to 1.77 (99) yesterday I was not able to watch or download any YT video.

Web Compatibility (Disables the WebKit MediaSource API) is still mising from Playlist Settings.

In brave://flags option to switch to old Playlist (which in 1.74 drained battery at most half as much as new one) is now missing.

I’ve once again checked on iPhone 12 Pro Max with freshly reinstalled iOS 18.4.1 (it was before 18.5) and fresh install of Brave 1.77 with no change in settings. Still it doesn’t work*.

How’s that possible?

*) I’ve encountered several YT videos that are able to be downloaded but they are very rare.
It happened week or two ago and since then I’m out of luck finding more such videos that are able to be played or downloaded through Brave’s Playlist.

As much as I hoped for this issue to be resolved it still persists in 1.78 (103) and I can’t find any video on YT that is able to be played or downloaded via Playlist.
I once again checked on my daily iPhone as well as on freshly restored iPhone with fresh install of Brave with default settings.

Update: after at least 30 unsuccessful attempts of using Playlist it suddenly started to work with at least 15 successful views/downloads.

I’m not cheering yet as something similar happened to me two or three weeks ago, but I will keep testing and Update soon.

This issue was actually just fixed and should be included in the next browser update to v 1.78:

You can try going to the iOS App Store now and downloading the update, but it may or may not be available (these things take a while to propagate). If it is not, check every now and then throughout the day and it will eventually appear.

So far so good.

After aprox. 30 incomprehensible failed attempts (on two iPhones) of using playlist suddenly it stared to work just fine. And since then I haven’t had a single failure.

That’s a great relief after two or more moths without wonderful Playlist. This really shows how valuable Brave’s Playlist is.

Any known workarounds for that?

I’m usually using VPN and I had one time that it didn’t wanted to work (just like always before 1.78) but after changing VPN server it worked again flawlessly.
If I will have any more finding I will report asap.

Load the mobile site > Request desktop site > Add to playlist > View in playlist > Save offline data

I’m currently having this issue as well, I’m on version 1.79 even though this issue was supposedly fixed on 1.78.
@Kirks is it still working for you?
I’m not using a VPN, so that’s not an issue. Although I’m not able to try changing servers to see if that resolves anything.

Yes @YoRHa-No.2-Type-B it is working for me and it seams that VPN server I’m currently on has no more influence. It now just works.

I’m also suspecting that VPN had little contribution to not working of downloads because without VPN it also was not always working at beginning of using 1.79.

If I’ll have any more findings I’ll post it here.

Good to know @Kirks I won’t mess with the VPN.

Brave has also had another update, it’s now 1.80 but it’s still having issues.
I have found a workaround however, but it doesn’t always work.
