So after updating my iPhone (14) to iOS 18 when I try to download a Youtube video in my brave playlist it always says: “Failed to load resources”, I tried things like: restarting my phone, Emptying the cache and downloading it again, incognito tab and desktop version but all of them failed.
I am experiencing the same problem, have tried several things including following the topic from a year earlier (wasn’t even logged in but did log in and then out again).
I have no idea why it is not working, it always did so flawlessly.
I experience the same or similar problem for some time and went through 2 brave updates and one iOS update. also a couple of restarts of both app and phone btw.
general troubleshooting tips like clearing cache, history, offline data etc did nothing but deleting the vids I still had.
i found a workaround though:
open a private tab
go to youtube
do not log in but scroll down in the notfication window and click ‘reject all’
find the video you like to add to playlist
add as usual
make sure to start playing it to get brave to actually download the video
after this you can access playlist from regular browser tabs and play, just not add videos to the playlist. You will still have to go through a private tab.
iPhone 13 mini, iOS 17.7.1
brave 1.71 (125)
and about 60gb still available storage capacity
[edit]
playlist does still work normally on my iPad Air(5th), ipaDOS 17.6.1, brave 1.71 (125)

Hello, i have the same issue (ios 18.1.1) but an old post suggested a workauround which worked perfectly. On yt i load a video then on the bottom right corner i click on the 3 dots and instead of using the mobile site i force it into desktop mode. Then add it to the playlist and tada it works atleast for me.
I had to close and restart the app and repeat the steps above to further add songs to my playlist
@Bouneschlupp can you confirm your current Brave version? We released 1.73.97 late last week which should resolve many of the reported Playlist issues.
1.73.97 still does not fix it for me.
Workaround 1 : use desktop version
Workaround 2 : paste youtube url into incognito windows. Reject all when prompted.
This happened to me after upgrading to 1.75 (179).
I had this problem a long time ago and what helped me until this upgrade was to set Web Compatibility (Disables the WebKit MediaSource API) in Playlist settings.
But unfortunately this option is now missing (I don’t know since when it’s gone).
None of above workarounds is working for me. Maybe because I use Block all Cookies but this newer made any issue (with Web Compatibility turned on).
Maybe this will help pinpoint this problem as I really depend on playlist for YouTube too – not only for other sites.
@Kirks thanks for writing in. Can you share any of the video’s that aren’t loading, or a screen grab of it happening? So far I’m unable to re-produce the issue. Thank you!
@Kirks do you have it set to save offline? And are you trying to watch right away or are you returning to it at a later time?
@steeven I’m going to play with things a bit here later, but in the past I had issues where I had videos set to automatically save for offline viewing. I would add videos to Playlist and then go about my business. when I’d return later, I might have issues like they are saying. The problem is that Brave didn’t actually download for offline, as it seems to require us to open Playlist after to force it to start downloading.
Then for whatever reason, it kind of expires and if you wanted to watch whatever content it was, then you can’t access.
I haven’t messed with this for a while since I complained about it. I’ll see if I can remember to test it out later. I’d do now but the test would kind of require me not to use Playlist. And I’m about to be using the heck out of it while I get some things done around the apartment. But this is why I just asked Kirks the questions I did. And might be good to test to see if issue still exists.
cc: @Evan123 (since I saw you while I was editing, just wanted to make sure you see the edited portion where I relayed info for Steeven and the rest of you, for whoever is testing. That said, off I go to get some some stuff done…)
@steeven Since this last upgrade I didn’t found single YT video that would work in Playlist (and no problem with videos from other sites).
Some random example: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=-8bTquKjzos
With auto download disabled; steps to reproduce:
open YT video page
press note icon in address bar / add to playlist from three dots menu / long press video
open Playlist
press added video / chose to download
error message appears: “Sorry There was a problem loading the resource!”
I even tried to enable old playlist interface via brave://flags and it didn’t made any difference.
PS
New Playlist is very much slower (especially when opening it with 100 videos) then old one. But also it drains battery way faster then old one.
@Saoiray normally I downloaded it manually but now I tried the auto save with no luck.
I also noticed that when YT video is added to playlist and not downloaded is several hours it will not download without revisiting YT video page. But that’s not a problem at all.
I was always using Brave with cookies turned off without any problem but I tried on factory restored iPhone with all default settings and fresh install of Brave all with same problem so I ruled cookies out.
@Kirks very short video here to show what I was doing how it works. And then I went into settings and realized that they changed things. There’s no more a toggle to set for automatically download. Instead all we get to do is choose if we want it to be able to save data offline. If I turned it off then it literally wouldn’t let me download even if I wanted to. So then put it back to on
I am able to replicate this regularly if I go from something that was from thumbnails or something rather than the actual content. Like if I go to YouTube directly and just on their main page it will show like I can add a video to playlist. But all of that’s doing is seeing whatever is autoplay based on the thumbnail. When I go to try to save that it won’t do it. I will get the same error message that you’re talking about.
In case it matters, my Playlist settings are like so:
Okay, I slacked off enough today. Time for me to get away from the website and try to get my stuff done around the apartment. Hopefully things get figured out but at least wanted to try to take a quick glimpse at things
@Saoiray thank you for your in-depth testing of my problem.
As I wrote on my first post I always had this issue unless I turned on Web Compatibility which is now missing from settings.
Nonetheless I’m normally using settings as attached but I’ve done screen recording using Your settings.
@Kirks oh, actually…your settings. You have Save Content for Offline Playback turned off in your screenshot. I said it would not work for me if I tried it like that. Just to make sure no confusion, have you made sure to set that to On?
I mean, yes, it should still play normally even if not saved to offline, but just wanting to test and confirm.
Oh, one more thing. In Brave’s settings if you go to Settings → Media what do you have for quality? I have mine set to Highest Quality Playback set to On. Not sure if that mattered. (sorry, I’d spend more time testing but still busy…just have a habit of checking on things and responding here and there on this site)
@Saoiray I checked both and actually Screen recording was done with Save Content for Offline Playback turned on, but I always had it off and it worked perfectly before update.
In Settings → Media I had Highest Quality Playback set to Off but just checked with On and it still don’t work.
I appreciate any and all of Your help and please don’t feel guilty from such reason. It doesn’t work for me for at last week and it’s uncomfortable not to have Playlist but I’m still patient.
