Initial page load on Android is extremely slow

Description of the issue: The first site loaded on Brave on my Android phone takes a very long time to load, several seconds (usually 8-10, but sometimes upwards of 30), but subsequent sites load normally. This does not happen if Brave is still loaded in the background.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Close Brave completely by swiping up in the app switcher on Android.
  2. Reopen Brave.
  3. Load a site, do a search, etc.

Expected result: Sites should load immediately.

Brave Version: 1.75.180, Chromium 133.0.6943.126

Mobile Device details: Samsung Galaxy A13 5G, Android 13, Build/TP1A.220624.014

Additional Information: This same issue occurs on other Android devices I have used: Moto G6, Pixel 5a.

There have been several BB updates since February. Has there been any improvement?

This is also happening to me. In fact, it has been happening for the better half of a year now, I just never got around to talking about it here. I’ve strongly considered reinstalling it but I don’t know how to export my data so I’ve held off. Here’s what I’ve tried:

  • Clearing cookies & cache within the browser
  • Clearing the app cache within Android itself
  • Changing DNS providers and outright turning off secure DNS (at both the browser and OS level)
  • Double-checked network settings to see if anything might have been enabled that could be causing the issue
  • Tried experimenting with different times of the day and different sites
  • Checked same sites on two different browsers (Firefox and Vivaldi)

Nothing fixed the issue and I’m honestly out of ideas to try other than fully reinstalling, but again, I don’t know how to export my data before I do that.

Do you have a ton of Filter Lists enabled (perhaps even a bunch of Custom ones added) under Content Filtering? I had added a few of my own (1Hosts, HaGeZi, OISD, etc) in the past, and it caused Brave to take a long time to load the initial sites. I only use a couple of the light built-in ones now (Easylist and such), and it’s normal.

I have this issue currently with the most recent release. Although, my new tabs/pages/sites take about 3-5 seconds to initialize. My new post about this issue was “hidden” for some reason after replying to a moderator to provide the version number of Brave. The version prior to this was working perfectly fine.

Brave 1.78.96, Chromium 136.0.7103.60
