Dear Brave Team,
As a Linux user of Brave Browser, I’m writing to request an improvement in how Brave handles session restoration after system reboots or shutdowns, particularly when these actions are initiated via terminal commands.
Current issue:
Despite having the “Continue where you left off” option enabled in settings, Brave consistently prompts users to restore the previous session upon restart after a system reboot or shutdown. This occurs even when the system shutdown or reboot is initiated via terminal commands, which is a common practice among Linux users.
Rationale for serious consideration:
- User experience: This issue disrupts the seamless browsing experience that Brave aims to provide, forcing users to take an extra step each time they start their browser after a system restart.
- Linux-specific workflow: Many Linux users prefer using terminal commands for system operations. The current behavior doesn’t align well with this common Linux workflow.
- Consistency with settings: The browser’s behavior contradicts the user’s explicit preference set in the “On startup” settings, potentially confusing users.
- Parity with other platforms: This issue seems to be more prevalent on Linux, creating an inconsistent experience across different operating systems.
- Productivity impact: For users who frequently reboot their systems or use Brave across multiple Linux machines, this extra step can accumulate into significant time loss over time.
Proposed solution:
Implement a more robust session-saving mechanism that can detect and properly handle system shutdowns or reboots initiated through terminal commands. This would ensure that the “Continue where you left off” setting works as intended, regardless of how the system was shut down or rebooted.
By addressing this issue, Brave would demonstrate its commitment to providing a seamless experience for Linux users and reinforce its position as a user-centric, cross-platform browser.
Thank you for your consideration.
Sincerely,
Lex
