I was asked to install V002. Why? Is this From Brave or a Virus?

I was on an older version of brave and asked to update. Instead of clicking the update button I decided to quit and reopen the browser because thats what I have done in the past and it updates automatically.

This time when i reopened brave the auto update didn’t work and the red update button on the top right was still there. But another small pop up appeared that said I am not on the latest version of the browser and need to install this brave V002 - So I click install and it takes me to: https://brave.com/download/ - From there when I click update it asks to download BRV002 as show in the image below. I download and install this version 2 and nothing happens. I can’t find it in documents or applications. Like nothing was installed after I completed all the installation steps.

I want to make sure this is a legitimate Version or update from brave because I installed and downloaded it and I’m Not sure if this is something from Brave or a Virus or something. It took me to the Brave.com domain so I think its okay but I’m not sure why or what it asked to install the new version for. Is BRV002 from brave?

Right after this I installed a new version of the Mac software - macOS Ventura 13.3.1 - and then reopened brave and a new version of brave was installed -
Version 1.50.121 Chromium: 112.0.5615.138 (Official Build) (x86_64)
- and the red update button is gone.

Please let me know if something has gone wrong and I installed something thats not from brave browser or if this is okay and I can just delete the install file from my documents.

If anyone has any idea where I can find the installed file let me know.

Any information would be helpful. Thank you,

I guess, everything is fine. But I will tag someone from the team to confirm. @Mattches Could you confirm ?

It looks like you may have originally installed Brave using a promo code, which is the v002 you’re seeing. That said this should be all good — the version you downloaded is official and safe.

Thank you
