I’m a Full Stack Engineer myself, trust I hate to sound like that end-user that just whines, “It’s broken.” But it really is that simple.
I booted up my work machine to begin my work day. I noticed the Brave taskbar icon was missing, loaded it anyway. My passwords and bookmarks and extensions remain but all other settings just poofed back to defaults.
That’s pathetic, I’ll find another browser if Brave lacks even the most basic stability to depend on it for my daily work grind. I’m older than the Internet is, operating a Web Browser isn’t, or shouldn’t be might I dare, Rocket Science.
Hello! Thanks for the feedback. You mentioned experiencing this on a work device. Do you have any policies showing up here? brave://policy/
No policies are set from what I can tell. It was pretty open in Firefox too.
Do you see Your browser is managed
under brave://settings/help. Thanks for confirming.
@CopiousAmountsOfDerp
- What settings are you saying went to default?
- Are you choosing to Delete Browsing Data, such as to clear anything on exit?
Things aren’t rocket science. It’s simple out of the box and things persist if people aren’t erasing them. Btw, your timing seems similar to https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/1j41475/android_brave_shields_settings_reverting_back_on/
But I see you marked yours for Windows and they marked as Android. What’s interesting though is that Reddit link has it where the person said in comments they are clearing Site & Shields Settings but then they are wondering why it’s putting their Shields settings to default.
They were deleting their settings and then wondering why they didn’t persist. Not exactly a mystery. But people think in all sorts of ways.
That’s why I wanted to clarify which settings you’re referring to so we can figure out what’s actually happening.
That’s not me on Reddit, I don’t even have a Reddit account.
Settings such as disabling of the wallet system, autoplay settings, saving of credit card info, buttons in the UI like remove the Leo AI, etc. All of that was reset like the user profile got deleted like it was temporary for only a limited session.
I don’t use any of the auto-sync features as I prefer to keep my personal home bookmarks and passwords and systems separate & isolated from my work systems, for obvious reasons. I wasn’t trying to delete any settings, just use the browser for my daily rounds.

Do you have Clear Data on Exit enabled

I never checked any of those boxes, I wasn’t even aware of howto access that feature in Brave until now. Still building all the feature mappings in my head between browser features. I had been using Mozilla since Netscape Navigator 4.7x back in the 90s on a dialup internet connection.
PS I’ve switch to LibreWolf. Peace lol
