I haven’t seen ads on mac for a month

ads-bug
#1

I haven’t been able to see any ads for the past month despite the “up to 5 ads per hour” setting.
I’m on mac, OS X El Capitan Version 10.11.6

I’m in one of the 5 countries where ads supposedly work.
I’ve checked the notification settings and they seem fine. I haven’t touched them.
I’ve updated Brave Dev to 0.64.36

I’ve even re-installed Brave Dev (complete wipe, files and everything). Still not working. I think the problem started when I verified my Uphold account. I needed to disable something for the verification to work (Uphold staff told me to click on the Brave icon on the right side of the URL bar and change something but I don’t remember what).

How do I fix it so I’ll be able to see the ads again?

Hi @Kangbachen, very sorry for the inconvenience. Could you please give the following a try:

  1. Open up a terminal (Hold Command + space and type “terminal”)
  2. Paste and run this to start the dev version of the browser with logging: /Applications/Brave\ Browser\ Dev.app/Contents/MacOS/Brave\ Browser\ Dev --enable-logging=stderr --vmodule=brave_ads=3 2>&1 | grep "Notification not made"
  3. Go to: https://www.cnet.com/news/brave-promises-20x-faster-websites-with-speedreader-mode/
  4. Let go of the mouse for 30 seconds
  5. Move the mouse again
  6. Paste what shows up in the console

Would

sudo sysctl -w vm.shared_region_unnest_logging=0

fix the problem?

@Kangbachen I’m on Mac as well, although an older version. For me, too, Brave Dev never displayed any ads for weeks. 3 or 4 days ago, I updated to version 0.64.37 Chromium: 74.0.3729.40 and since then, I’ve already seen 4 ads now. I think your problem could likely be fixed as well if you get the current 0.64.37 version.
Good luck.

@BraveNew I’ve updated to 0.64.37, and I still can’t see anything. Oh well, it was worth a try. Thanks for the suggestion.

Sorry for the delay here, @Kangbachen would you mind DM’img me the country you are in if not the US and I can dig up an example page that would properly trigger? And not sure I recognize that logging information. If you take out the grep do you see anything that has “Notification not made”?
