I had a strangers username and password appear in my Brave saved passwords for Questrade.com!

I had an extra username AND password appear in my Brave password cache. I saw this pop up when I was logging in to questrade.com. I am 100% the only person to access this computer. And 100% know this was not my username!
I saw there was some similar reports on X (twitter) about this. What is going on??

@sbiefeni,
Can you share with me the links for any Tweets of users reporting this issue?

As for the issue itself, there’s only two possible ways for this to happen:

  1. Someone has/had access to your machine and logged into questrade.com using their credentials. If you’re absolutely sure there’s no chance that this is the case then this can be ignored.
  2. If you are using Brave Sync, there’s a chance that someone used/had access to a device that is on your Sync chain. Then, when the browser installed on the machine in which you saw this login data synced new data, it added the login to your list of passwords.

I’m absolutely sure nobody logged in using my machine. I live alone and absolutely nobody had access to it.
It would also be very unusual that someone might have broken in and ‘sneakily’ logged in to their questrade account… that’s just not feasible and makes no sense.
I checked brave sync, and this machine is the only one shown there. Should I disable the sync thing? Is it possible that some synced passwords are getting crossed with another account?

Any other devices on your Sync chain will appear on any device on the chain. So you would know if another device had Synced to your chain.

Other than that there is no other way that I can think of that this would happen. Can you share the links of other user reports you saw so I can check and see if I can find any commonality?
