Hi, i have brave v 1.76.74 and everytime i close browser i get logged out of google, it only happens for google, for other sites this doesn’t apply. I had this issue before and somehow i fixed but this time, the fix from before doesnt work anymore and its just annoying using brave rn

well that did not work, i did every step and still i get logged out
nothing seems to work for me, ive tried many methods but i still get logged out of google after closing browser
@animes let me ask just out of curiosity.
- Are you using a VPN?
- Do you have 2FA set up?
- Using any extensions?
- What Shields settings are you using? And have you changed the site specific ones on any Google site like YouTube, Gmail, etc?
If you were getting logged out of more than just Google I’d even say to make sure you’re not clearing data on exit, or would even suggest you check to make sure you don’t have a 3rd party app/program on your device that might be clearing data…such as CCleaner and all.
When it’s specific to just one site, it would make it seem that there’s something going on with the cookies for that site.
Some places where people have 2FA and/or VPN will cause the login cookie to expire when it sees things change. So with Brave’s fingerprint protections the site would think it’s potentially a new device and void out the login.
Similarly, some extensions can cause various types of interference or be causing the purge themselves.
And of course Shields come into play as just needing to make sure you’re not using things like Block All Cookies or Forget me when I close this site which would cause things to be cleared out.
Every other site i stay logged in,
- i’m not using vpn
- Yes i use 2fa
- Yes but even with them off i still get logged out
- All standard ones, i didn’t change anything.
@animes I’m wondering if it might just be the 2FA and Shields combination then. I know there’s a number of websites I use which will have things expire a bit quicker, especially after browser updates. The main similarity is that they all use 2FA.
I don’t have that set up on my Google account and haven’t been logged out of it in my browser for as long as I can remember. I’ve steadily been logged in probably for a few years now.
The potential things to test here would be either of the options below:
- Disable 2FA on your Google account
- Completely disable Shields on all Google related sites (they share same login cookies)
You could always revert back after testing them out. But just would be to see if you notice differences.
Again, sites using 2FA tend to be a lot stricter and expire quicker. It could be that your ending the session and the browser fingerprint being randomized is the key.
I disabled the 2fa and all shield and i get still logged out every time i close my browser
I guess let me tag in @steeven and @Mattches to see if they have any ideas or can get anyone else at Brave to take a look. I’m not sure why some people seem to be having problems.

This issue is likely specific to the setup (system or browser) of the user experiencing it. If this was happening to everyone in Brave using gmail we’d see thousands of reports coming in.
Can you please try a couple tests for me?
- Try creating a new browser profile (
Menu --> More tools --> Add profile), ensure that you close your original browser profile window, then try logging into Google, closing the window then relaunching that profile to see if the issue reproduces in the new profile. - If the above does reproduce the issue, can you try downloading the Brave Beta build and testing the behavior in the Beta build as well (note that downloading/installing the Beta will not overwrite any data from your current install)?
@Mattches actually see OP had an issue open before and it was resolved, but then they said it returned when they reinstalled or whatever. Brave keeps logging me out of google - #7 by animes
It looks like they followed same prompt as 289wk often gives, which shouldn’t ever need anyone to do.
But have seen people claim it gets resolved such as in quotes below. These steps shouldn’t need to be done, if it truly is enough for it to retain…I don’t think.
Can’t say it’s thousands, but I do see a decent amount of reports. Such as these posts below. I’m sure there’s more but I don’t feel like taking too much time to dig around.

@Saoiray thank you for aggregating. While all of these threads do seem to be spread out over several months, it does seem like there is some weirdness going on here. Going to go through these and open an issue on GH.
This one seems to be a bit of an outlier. Will dig into all this regardless.

This is happening to me as well, not only with Google
Will do. Just trying to think how much time I want to spend on each one verifying information before I add it. For example, https://www.reddit.com/r/brave_browser/comments/1jfoicj/cookies_i_believe_disappearing_after_restart/ just got made an hour ago. Not sure if it fits with the others since they haven’t specified everything. They also have a weirdness of saying most of History vanishes too, which makes it sound like extension or setting.
Yeah I know what you mean. In this case I think it’s worth adding, with the caveat that it might not be specific to Google but still related. I’ve already gone ahead and added it.

So ive tried to fix it by myself by switching to brave beta and looking thru options to se if something would help but no, nothing seems to be working. I even switched pc for my second pc but the issue is still present
Same issue here - happening on both my desktop and laptop.
- Not using Brave Sync - both devices are fully isolated browser wise.
- “Clear cookies and site data on close” is definitely off.
- Not using any third-party cleanup tools like CCleaner.
- Cookie settings for
google.comare not set to clear, and other logins stay active. - Only affects Google accounts, signs me out daily.
- Running the latest Brave on both machines.
Seems like something changed recently. I noticed this behavior pop up within the last week or two. Glad I’m not the only one seeing this.
