I don't want a VPN!

Occasionally, when I open Brave I see a very brief red message in the upper right saying something about a VPN. What is this? Is there a built-in VPN? I don’t want one. I have my VPN when I want it. I’ve gone to my account, and it tells me I have no “plans” at all, i.e., I’ve not paid for anything extra with this browser. So, is there a hidden VPN here or not? I’m asking because I’m getting some weird behavior with certain websites, notably Amazon. They don’t respect my Mac as a legitimate device. So, they “lock me out.” And, for that reason, I have to go through their ridiculous extra security steps, using an OTP code.
Thanks.

Detailed description of the behavior:

Not exactly sure what you’re seeing unless you’re new to Brave. The browser will give notifications to different features to make you aware of them. Once you interact with it, then they go away. I’m guessing this is perhaps your situation.

Brave has a VPN you can use, just like there’s also TOR integration available within the browser. Neither are on by default and in order for the VPN to be active you would have to not only enable it but also sign up for a subscription.

Umm, no. Nothing “hidden.”

Most likely would be due to an extension you’re using or your Shields settings. It may be more helpful to know what you’re seeing in detail and the steps needed to take to see if, like if it shows every time you visit?

And of course if you’re using a VPN, this could cause your issue as they would be seeing you at a different IP and may want to make sure it’s not someone else trying to access your account.
