I have tried using Brave Sync before, but when I logged in with a fresh browser, it just deleted my bookmarks and passwords. I have had this problem with other browsers’ versions of sync also.
I would definitely like to try using the Brave browser, but want to make sure that I can open up nightly, beta, or release and each time, have the same passwords & bookmarks available. So:
(1) How do I delete all Brave sync data (it is old, anyways)
(2) and then upload data from one version of Brave,
(3) and then have all my other versions sync to that?
OK, I take it none of my brave versions are set up for sync right now.
So I went ahead in the version I have current bookmarks & passwords, and set up sync.
Now how do I make sure that when I log in with other versions (Nightly & release), that my sync data won’t get over-written by the old data on each of those browsers? I have set up sync on beta. But I also want to get Brave Nightly & Release on the same sync, but want to make sure that it is Nightly & Release that get synced to Beta, and not vice versa.
If you’ve started a new Sync chain in Beta, then it’s not possible for Nightly and/or Release to to Sync to it.
I would first open Nightly or Release, go to Settings --> Sync --> Managed Synced devices and click the Delete Sync account there — that will ensure that the old Sync chain is gone and any devices on it will be kicked off anyway.
Then simply use the Sync code for the newly created chain (that you did in Beta) and you’re good to go.
I just did that, and the same thing happened that often happens–syncing didn’t align my browsers, but merged everything. that’s not what I wanted.
What I want to do, although of course I’ll have to delete all my bookmarks and passwords and start over, is make sure that one version that has everything just like I want it, will have its bookmarks and passwords synced to the other versions.
How can I do that? I don’t want to merge old bookmarks and passwords.
@paulri,
Sync works by merging data across devices on the Sync chain. If you have the data type toggled “on” in the Sync menu for both/all devices, those devices will Sync any new data the other doesn’t have.
For what you want, the easiest way to do this would be to simply delete the data (bookmarks, passwords, etc) from Nightly and Release builds so that they don’t have any data to Sync. Then setup Beta the way you want, then add the other builds to the chain.
One other thing, is that you have to go in to each browser (the one that is the template, as well as the ones that you want to “download” the synced settings into) and choose which settings you want synced. For example, I had in the Sync settings, my Beta version set to sync bookmarks and passwords. But no passwords showed up when I synced the Nightly & Release versions, until I went into the sync settings and toggled the setting to have passwords synced, as well.
Go to the Settings, then the Sync menu on the left. Then, scroll down the right side and you will see the various options of settings to sync.
