I had a question about the AI feature of the Brave browser. Long story short, I looked up “what are my girlfriends birthstones” in the search bar, and the AI feature responded with “Based on the provided search results, since your girlfriend’s birth month is June, her birthstones are:”
I wanted to ask about how the AI feature knows what my girlfriend’s birth month is?
AI = documenting / reporting everything that occurs. I personally disable AI every way possible to stop this.
I can’t speak to exactly to what LEO AI is doing but the majority are monitoring / reporting about people, creating profiles, and selling that information.
Whenever the reply is based on a search query, look at the bottom of the reply for the exact query it used. If you click on the links there, each will take you to the search results that Leo is referencing. Leo has no way to know who you are, or who your gf is and when she was born. It is also stupidly assuming that the search query is NOT made by itself, even though it is. So what happens behind the scenes is that Leo is asked for what would be a relevant search query to make, the query is made on Brave Search but then the results are fed back to Leo described simply as “the results of a relevant query” so it typically assumes that YOU or someone with knowledge about the original question made that query. So if the results of the query mention June for whatever reason, it is likely that it will just assume that your GF has her birthday on June, otherwise why would the “relevant” results say so? If Leo got the month right without you mentioning it in the same conversation or it being mentioned somewhere on the open tab when you asked Leo (without disabling the “share page content switch”), then it’s just a coincidence.
May an employee of Brave correct me if my understanding is wrong.
