How do I enable widevine in Beta when the browser does not prompt?

Description of the issue:
When I go to:

I get told this browser is not supported as it does not have widevine. Now I know with hulu and some other sites I usually get a prompt that allows me to enable widevine. However, I get no such prompt with this. As such, I can’t seem to enable widevine. This is on Windows 7 64 bit, most recent beta.

Steps to Reproduce (add as many as necessary): 1. 2. 3.

  1. Go to Spotify’s Web Portal

Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):
You get the ’ Enable player in your browser’ page, which links to a support site with info on how to enable protected content to be played in Chrome, Firefox, and Edge. As this is built on chromium, I did try following the chrome instructions, but to no avail.

Expected result:
Being able to use Spotify’s Web Player.

Reproduces how often:
Everytime

Brave Version(about:brave):
Version 0.56.7

Reproducible on current live release (yes/no):
Yes

Additional Information:

Hi,
i don’t use the beta, but i had the problem on Amazon.de (that Widevine is not offered for installation).

Even if you don’t use the following page, go to primevideo.com. There you should be able to install Widevine.
Amazon Prime Videos - DRM issue (again)

Edit:
Apparently it is not yet possible to install Widevine on certain pages.

Hi @Abaccus,

For the Spotify issue, this one may works:

  • Open spotify.com
  • There you should see Widevine notification at URL bar. On the right side.
  • Install and run Widevine
  • Open open.spotify.com
  • It’s working.

EDIT:
Logged issue for Spotify Spotify Web Player Unable to Play Content · Issue #1391 · brave/brave-browser · GitHub

Thanks,
