How do I change focus away from URL bar in new tab?

I have Brave set up so that a new tab goes to my homepage, which is Google. It does that - but then the cursor is in the address bar, not the search bar. This is annoying, mainly because the drop-down list of search results that appears before you hit Return is different, and useful. Any ideas?
