Is there some reason we cannot have the homepage open a page of our choice like on desktop e.g. brave://bookmarks ??

That’s what pushed me to switch to another browser. It’s sad it’s still not proposed.
If you go to Settings --> Homepage, you can set the homepage to be whatever you’d like.
