Home Button Immediately Covers Content on Page

Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.

Description of the issue:
The “Home” button in the Android app immediately covers the content currently being edited/viewed. Any text entry or other editing in the page is lost when user accidentally taps “Home,” and does not appear to be recoverable.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. On Brave for Android, launch any website with a long text entry field (ex: YouTube or Reddit comment)
  2. Enter some text, but do not complete/submit the form.
  3. Close Android’s on-screen keyboard and tap the application’s home button.

At this point, the “Brave Homepage” covers the current content. No prompt is given before this screen is displayed.

If user attempts to navigate away, they are prompted with “Are you sure you want to leave?” (because text has been entered). But there is no apparent way to return to the page/site or the text you entered.

Expected result:
When “Home” button is tapped accidentally, user needs a way to return to the content on the page.

Users can disable bottom row or turn off home button to avoid this, but these are less satisfactory solutions.

Brave Version( check About Brave):
Brave 1.61.114, Chromium 120.0.6099.199

Mobile Device details
Samsung Galaxy Z Flip 4
(Also reproducible on Pixel 7 Pro and Moto Edge 2021)
Additional Information:
NOTE FOR CLARITY: the bug above is referring specifically to the Home or “Homepage” button in the Brave browser app, and not the Home button/gesture for Android OS.
