Hi. I’m an ordinary person who would like to use Brave. I am not technically savvy and I don’t understand half of what you say on the forum. I have tried, and tried, but I can’t get Brave to work properly. I have loaded Brave onto my desktop (with time and trouble) but I can’t get it to Sync with my phone. I have just spent at least an hour trying to solve the problem. Is there any way I can connect with a person who can help me out? If not, I’ll just delete the application and go back to Google Chrome.
For starters, please edit your Original Post (“OP”), above, to include:
- Brave Browser version numbers
- Operating System version numbers
You can find the Brave Browser version numbers in the top row of info at:
brave://version
Advice: No way around:
- the need to study
- routine backups of your data
You definitely will benefit from studying:

Thanks for the reply. No idea what it means. I wanted a more secure/private browser, not a tech community forum involvement. I just wanted help. Chrome works, so I guess I’ll have to wait for a user-friendly alternative. Thanks anyway.
@ptrdahl hard to answer as you haven’t provided any details. Such as when you say you can’t get it to sync, you didn’t say whether you tried to form a sync chain, what’s happening when you try, or what type of information you want synced.
I have a bit of a guide at * How to start a new sync chain and * Adding new devices to existing sync chain
Then there’s also the official guide at https://support.brave.com/hc/en-us/articles/360021218111-How-do-I-set-up-Sync
Hello, Nice of you to respond. I loaded Brave onto my laptop and it works fine. All my Chrome bookmarks are there. Works great. I then installed Brave on my Galaxy tablet and it works as a browser, but no bookmarks. I set up a sync chain and tried to sync the tablet to the PC … and Brave on the tablet says it did it, but when I go back to Brave on the PC it does not show the tablet as a synced device. On the tablet, it does show the tablet as a synced device. So, is the tablet synced or not? If so why doesn’t it sync my settings and bookmarks?
I’ve fiddled around and tried things over again … but to no avail. This is where my knowledge of the technology comes to a grinding halt. I don’t find any help or forum talk helpful. I take it that Brave is a great new idea, but I, as a member of the general, non-tech-savvy public must have a more user friendly way of getting started.
Thanks. Peter
Do you see two different sync codes on your desktop and tablet? Thanks!
In addition. On the tablet it shows under ‘devices on the sync chain’, the name of my tablet in red font (if that matters). There is a trash can icon to the right that I tried in order to start over, but tapping the icon has no function. Nothing happens. PD
It sounds like you created two separate sync chains. They can’t each have their own. You create a sync chain for one and then on the other you have to add it to an existing. For example, did you do as I shared at Helpful Info & FAQ for Brave Users - #38 by Saoiray for either device? Where you scanned the QR code or entered some words?
So one of them would have a sync chain created and you would then use it to generate the code that your other device would use. Let’s pretend you do that on your Desktop. So then on your tablet you would go into Sync and choose to join an existing sync. It would ask you to scan a QR code or enter a sync phrase. You would do that using the code or phrase generated from your computer.
Once that is done, you should see both devices listed on the sync chain together.
Since you don’t currently see both listed on the same sync chain, you will have to Delete Sync Chain on one of your devices so it can then join the one your other device is on.
There is a sync code on the PC, but can’t find one on the tablet, just a mostly black page with the name of the tablet in red, nothing much else. I’m going to delete the sync chain (in spite of scary warning) and try again. PD
Makes sense. I’m going to delete the sync chain on the tablet and start over from the sync chain QR code on the PC. Will report back. Thanks. PD
Fixed and it works! Thank you. PD
Problem solved. Somehow accidentally set up two different sync chains. This is the kind of thing that would normally have me walk away. Problem is, why so hard to get help to fix it? Anyway thanks very much. PD
