Halifax UK online banking website hangs during login. Not accessible

Brave hangs (some sort of javascript loop?) when logging in to the Halifax.co.uk online banking website. The problem is on the ‘memorable information’ page after passing the username / password section. About 20 seconds after loading, the page becomes unresponsive, eventually prompting the user to ‘wait or close’. Halifax is basically the 2nd biggest bank in the UK - you want to make sure users are not having difficulty with this site. On Chrome there is no problem.

Go to https://www.halifax-online.co.uk/personal/logon/login.jsp
Login with username in password.
After a successful login with username, the user is prompted in the next page to enter ‘memorable info’. The page hangs.

The page should not hang.

I’m on a Windows PC. 24GB RAM, 4810MQ processor. Windows 8 Pro. Everything up to date.
Extensions enabled are: Google Translate, Unpaywall, DarkReader.
Going incognito does not solve the problem.

Try adjusting shields, 1st by allowing all cookies. If it doesn’t work, disable all of shields. If it doesn’t work by then the site’s broken for brave and report the site with shields…

Yeah, we’ve had issues debugging this (due to banking privacy)

As @megaspaz stated, try adjusting cookies in shields first. Then failing that, site trackers. Let us know if it helps.

Hi, yes indeed it appears to work with the shields down. Must be a shields issue.

@BraveNewWobbled which specific shield setting is causing it? Does disabling Site ads and trackers help or allowing All Cookies ?

It’s actually very confusing to test this because the memorable info page is on a different domain with different shield settings. It’s difficult to set these consistently… I thought ads and trackers were causing the problem but now I’m not sure. I’m really struggling to figure out what’s actually causing the problem.

OK I’m pretty certain it’s the fingerprinting shield which is to blame. Toggling this on and off on the memorable info page alternately broke / fixed the page. Also I’ve disabled this shield ONLY on both domains and the thing seems to work okay. FYI the two domains used are:

https://www.halifax-online.co.uk/ -> username and password
https://secure.halifax-online.co.uk/ -> memorable information

Hope this helps

What fingerprinting details are shown in the dropdown, in the shield settings?
