Google Hangouts Extension

Why does Brave still have the Google Hangouts extension, google hangouts was discontinued quite a while ago, and the extension is a major privacy issue so why is it included by default in a privacy oriented browser?

I ran across this tech article today explaning that Chromium has it included as a hidden extension. That extension reports to google owned domains, information about the CPU, GPU, browser tabs, memory usage. Since it is embedded in Chromium, Brave is affected as it’s based on Chromium. They even mentioned Brave by name in the article. Has this been looked into?

Yes — this was answered yesterday:

Further, as it says, some web features require that extension in order to function.
