I’m using the most current version of the Brave browser on Windows 11 Enterprise (Version 1.69.168 Chromium: 128.0.6613.138 (Official Build) (64-bit)) .
Today, when accessing Google calendar via the browser, there’s a banner notice that states: “This browser version is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser.” (see screen grab below)
Is this a temporary error until the devs can change something? Or (hopefully not) a permanent error?
Interestingly, this error only appears on the Calendar page. I do not get the banner on Google’s main page, Google Voice, Google Photos, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Keep, Google Docs, or Google Sheets.
Edit: Brave running on MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 is unaffected.
Opened the Google Calendar in a private window and there is no banner notice.
Even though I was running the latest build, I downloaded and installed the latest build from the web site, but issue persists.
Disabled shields, issue persists.
Disabled both extensions (1Password and Fakespot) running, issue persists.
Deleted all cookies and cache files, still persists.
I would really like to NOT create another profile because of the number of open windows and tabs that I use. It’s frustrating to think that a profile can be borked for no apparent reason…
@kwagner Creating a second profile won’t get rid of anything in your current profile. It just adds a secondary profile that you can switch between. For example:
All your open tabs and settings will remain intact in your original profile. The second profile will start fresh with default settings and no extensions (though changes made to brave://flags or custom content filters will persist across all profiles).
And if it works in Private, it 99% means it’s either an extension or cookies. The likelihood of it being anything else is incredibly rare. The only difference between a normal and private window is that private starts the session with no cookies and all extensions disabled.
If it works in a private window, it’s highly likely—around 99%—that the issue is either an extension or cookies. The main difference between a normal and private window is that private windows start with no cookies and all extensions disabled.
When you cleared cookies and cache, did you clear them for all time or just for the one site? Sometimes clearing just one site won’t resolve the issue, especially since Google’s services are interconnected across different websites. Also, be sure you’re clearing the data for the correct time range, as the default is usually just the last hour, which may not go back far enough to remove the problematic data.
Same problem here. Could it be that Google detects Brave and tries to convince users to switch back to Chrome?
Let’s not forget how effectively Brave blocks Google/Youtube ads.
@kwagner — can you please try creating a new profile as @Saoiray suggested? As he explained above, it will not delete anything related to your other profile. It will install as a secondary profile that you can swap between. Please create a new profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile), close your original profile window (so that only the new one is open) and please try visiting calendar.google.com and test to see if you get the same message there.
For what it’s worth, I’m not seeing this banner on my end — Google Calendar is functioning normally with no additional warnings/banners.
