Google Calendar showing "This browser version is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser."

I’m using the most current version of the Brave browser on Windows 11 Enterprise (Version 1.69.168 Chromium: 128.0.6613.138 (Official Build) (64-bit)) .

Today, when accessing Google calendar via the browser, there’s a banner notice that states: “This browser version is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser.” (see screen grab below)

When I click the “Learn More” link, I’m directed to https://support.google.com/a/answer/33864

Is this a temporary error until the devs can change something? Or (hopefully not) a permanent error?

Interestingly, this error only appears on the Calendar page. I do not get the banner on Google’s main page, Google Voice, Google Photos, Gmail, Google Drive, Google Keep, Google Docs, or Google Sheets.

Edit: Brave running on MacOS Sonoma 14.6.1 is unaffected.

@kwagner if you could run through Helpful Info & FAQ or Brave Users - #10 by Saoiray and advise if you see changes in any of those steps, it would be appreciated.

Opened the Google Calendar in a private window and there is no banner notice.

  • Even though I was running the latest build, I downloaded and installed the latest build from the web site, but issue persists.
  • Disabled shields, issue persists.
  • Disabled both extensions (1Password and Fakespot) running, issue persists.
  • Deleted all cookies and cache files, still persists.

I would really like to NOT create another profile because of the number of open windows and tabs that I use. It’s frustrating to think that a profile can be borked for no apparent reason…

@kwagner Creating a second profile won’t get rid of anything in your current profile. It just adds a secondary profile that you can switch between. For example:

All your open tabs and settings will remain intact in your original profile. The second profile will start fresh with default settings and no extensions (though changes made to brave://flags or custom content filters will persist across all profiles).

And if it works in Private, it 99% means it’s either an extension or cookies. The likelihood of it being anything else is incredibly rare. The only difference between a normal and private window is that private starts the session with no cookies and all extensions disabled.

If it works in a private window, it’s highly likely—around 99%—that the issue is either an extension or cookies. The main difference between a normal and private window is that private windows start with no cookies and all extensions disabled.

When you cleared cookies and cache, did you clear them for all time or just for the one site? Sometimes clearing just one site won’t resolve the issue, especially since Google’s services are interconnected across different websites. Also, be sure you’re clearing the data for the correct time range, as the default is usually just the last hour, which may not go back far enough to remove the problematic data.

Same problem here. Could it be that Google detects Brave and tries to convince users to switch back to Chrome?
Let’s not forget how effectively Brave blocks Google/Youtube ads.

I cleared cookies for all time and deleted all cache files. I did not delete browsing history (because that would be a pain).

@kwagner — can you please try creating a new profile as @Saoiray suggested? As he explained above, it will not delete anything related to your other profile. It will install as a secondary profile that you can swap between. Please create a new profile (Menu --> More tools --> Add profile), close your original profile window (so that only the new one is open) and please try visiting calendar.google.com and test to see if you get the same message there.

For what it’s worth, I’m not seeing this banner on my end — Google Calendar is functioning normally with no additional warnings/banners.

FYI - I made no changes at all other than automatically getting version 1.70.123 and noticed today that the “browser version is no longer supported” banner is gone.

I suddenly got this today but for Gmail - though Calendar is fine, and I’m up-to-date when I check: Version 1.71.114 Chromium: 130.0.6723.58 (Official Build) (64-bit)

I’ve also started to get “This browser version is no longer supported. Please upgrade to a supported browser.” but in Gmail.
Using latest Brave v1.71.123 on Windows 10.

@maddoc_x when you see this banner appear, does it actually stop you from using the site? Or does it just display at the top the whole time?

It just displays at the top the whole time.
Creating a new profile does solve the issue.
But I don’t want to move manually all my open windows and tabs and loose the history.

@maddoc_x testing in a new profile is just a troubleshooting step. If you ever check and something works in a new profile but not in your original, it typically means it’s either an extension or a setting you’ve changed causing a problem

Just a FYI on troubleshooting steps that are often helpful.

  • Disabling Shields = This helps to make sure there’s nothing in your Shields settings creating a conflict. If it works with it off, then you know there’s something there that might need adjusted.

  • Private Window = Creates a session with no cookies and extensions disabled (by default). If an issue goes away by entering in a private window, you generally can assume it’s one of these two.

  • New Profile = Creates a second browser profile. Everything except custom content filters and changes to brave://flags are set to default. There will be no extensions, no cookies, etc. This usually gets done as a second step on ruling things out.

@maddoc_x I imagine this banner will disappear after some time, or is being caused by an extension or some other data.

If the banner is just displaying and isn’t actually affecting your ability to use the site, I would just leave it alone. Alternatively, you can try using the Block elements option in the context menu to get ride of it:
