Gmail is telling me to use another browser

Using OSX 15.5 and Brave 1.80.113

I just switched to Brave from Iridium
(because they don’t update it)

On this page…

Google tells me…

This browser or app may not be secure.
Try using a different browser.

I know, I should dump Gmail as well, but I’m not there yet.

Any idea about what is wrong ? Thanks.

Direct access to BB Settings > Site details for Google eco-system; for each of the following, set JavaScript to Allow:

  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fyoutube.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fgmail.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fgoogle.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fgooglevideo.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fgstatic.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fgoogleapis.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.google.com
  • brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2Fytimg.com

Notice, all of those have a fixed portion:

brave://settings/content/siteDetails?site=https%3A%2F%2F

followed by a domain name or host name.

Clear caches, cookies. Quit everything and Restart Mac. Test issue.

Also test, comparing the usage of

  • BB New Window
  • BB New Private Window

Can confirm this was also happening on Windows 11 Enterprise (Brave installed w/o Admin privileges).

The above solution worked.

Weirdly, for all settings, the default “Allowed (default)” was already set… but it did not work with Gmail until the switch was flipped specifically to “Allowed” (rather than “Allowed (default)”).
