Gmail Email Signature Image Not Displaying with Brave Shields Enabled

Hey,

I’m experiencing an issue with Gmail when using the Brave browser. Specifically, the image in my email signature shows up as broken when I open a new compose window but only when Shields are up.

How to Reproduce:

  1. Open Gmail (I’m using a Google Workspace/Apps account).
  2. Leave Brave Shields at the default setting.
  3. Click to compose a new email.
  4. The signature image appears broken (placeholder icon instead of the image).

What I Expected:

The signature image should load normally in the compose window.

Environment:

Brave Version: 1.2.43 (Chromium 79.0.3945.130, 64-bit)
OS: macOS Catalina 10.15.2

When I toggle Shields Down, everything works perfectly so it’s definitely tied to Brave’s Shield settings.

Does anyone know which specific shield settings need to be adjusted to allow Gmail (especially GSuite/Workspace accounts) to load signature images properly? I’m still learning how Brave handles content blocking and would appreciate any insight.

Hi @KristianAraujo,

Thanks for reporting! That’s super strange behavior. Would you be able to provide a screenshot of what it looks like? Did this just start with this latest update or has it been an issue for a bit?

Alternatively, if you’re managing this on a broader scale across a team or organization, using a tool for g-suite signature management might help. These tools often host signature assets in a way that’s less likely to be blocked by privacy-focused browsers like Brave.

Thanks in advance!

Brave tends to block cross-site trackers and third-party resources by default, which can sometimes include externally hosted images used in email signatures.

To fix this without disabling Shields entirely, try this:

Click the Brave icon in the address bar while you’re in Gmail.

Under Trackers & ads blocked, try toggling “Trackers & ads blocking” to a less aggressive setting like Standard.

Also, check the Fingerprinting and Cookie blocking options—adjusting these can sometimes help load embedded content.

@KristianAraujo can you share a screenshot of what you see on your end when you compose an email with a signature?
