Freezing upon Start

Description of the issue:
When launching brave browser, Browser opens up instantly but the tab that opens up with it lags and I can’t type anything or do anything on the browser until it unfreezes in about 3-4 seconds.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Open Brave Browser
  2. Das eet

Expected result:
To work as it was prior to this issue, Loaded up instantly with no lag or freezing.

Brave Version( check About Brave):

[Version 1.8.86 Chromium: 81.0.4044.129 (Official Build) (64-bit)]

Additional Information:
I’m on an i9-9900k @ 5Ghz with 32GB RAM set up so it’s not for lack of resources.
I will try to remove/disable any extensions I have to see if any of those is the culprit, however I have been using it exactly how it is since before and after it happened.

Just disabled every single Extension I use and tried it, Nope. Didn’t make a difference. :upside_down_face:

Same here, started about 5/2. Brave had been shutdown completely. I recall seeing update notification. Upon launch, after (finally) starting, it displayed “Binance” on the dashboard thinking that may be the culprit. I turned off everything possible in Dashboard Customization with no success. Upvote for a fix.

So apparently it’s only happening with the Live version.

I downloaded Brave Beta and it works like a charm, So looks like I’m moving all my stuff there temporarily while Live goes back to normal!

Actually figured out how to fix this. I’ll post here to make sure if this happens to anyone else, hopefully it can be fixed with the same process.

Brave Settings > Additional Settings > Reset Settings > Restore settings to their original defaults

History, Bookmarks and Saved passwords will NOT be deleted, you just have to set your settings and extensions back to the way you had them and boom, that 2-3 second lag is gone.

I’d still like to see Brave fix whatever issue is causing this though.

I have been seeing the same thing happen.

This has been happening for around 5 days.

I have running Windows 10 64-bit v 1903 on Intel I-5 / 8GB RAM / 256GB SSD.

When I open Brave or open new tab while Brave is running, it opens quickly, as usual, and the home tab shows quickly, the top sites icons are blank. Brave will not respond for up to 10 secs.

Brave version - [Version 1.8.90 Chromium: 81.0.4044.129 (Official Build) (64-bit)]

I have tried:

Clearing settings at the bottom of Advanced Settings.
Uninstalled / reinstalled with a clear all data option.
Installed Brave Beta version 1.9.5.1.
Disabled / uninstalled Extensions.
When I installed the beta it was better for a few times, but has the same problems.

When I open Brave CPU jumps from 5% to ~70%, floats between 40 and 55% for that time, until Brave responds, then drops down near where it was before I opened Brave.
