Fonts not following preferences in Options

I set the font preferences in Settings so they’ll always show as sans serif or Tahoma. However, on a site like the NY Times, the font still shows up as a serif font. Is there a way to override a site’s specified fonts to conform to the preferences expressed in Settings?
