Troubleshooting technical issues is much easier when both the user and support agent practice clear communication. For this reason, we have provided the template below for you to fill out with information about your issue. Please provide as much detail as possible so we can most efficiently resolve your problem.
Description of the issue:
In Android, when I close a tab, the notification alert in the bottom stays for wayyyyyy too long, occupying anything that might be at the bottom of the site. And there’s no way go remove it unless I clock to undo the tab closure.
you will see the remaining tab and the tab closed alert, which stays there for way too long (probably more than 30 seconds), making the bottom part of the site on the remaining tab completely not accessible and unusable.
I think the issue should be clear from the screenshots already.
This issue is especially annoying when I have a video in full screen and I can’t seek forward or backwards because the player’s progress bar is behind this message for many many seconds.
The Undo button appears to stay for roughly 10 seconds — if either of yours is truly staying for 30 seconds, please share a short recording of the button staying for that length of time, as that would truly be a bug.
Outside of that, I think 10s is a reasonable time for that notification to stay — especially considering previously, we’ve changed it from disappearing too quickly after a couple seconds or so as users were accidentally closing tabs and then losing the opportunity to undo what they’d done. That said, I do think the ability to swipe away the notification is also a reasonable request that I’ll bring up with the team.
I think that I made a post regarding this same thing (it’s pending moderation review as it’s a first post).
What method are you using to open the new tab? Is it manually opening the tab, or is it tapping a link and the link opens a new tab?
My issue is that clicking any link that opens up a new tab, creates the same issue.
I do not use tab groups. On regular tabs when closing a tab by sliding it out, the popup stays roughly 8-10 seconds. I used stopwatch to clock it
I am using brave nightly on Android 14.
As you can see, I have two tabs open (from the same grup).
I close the first tab, and then open a video in full screen on the tab that was left, where the at the bottom says “Closed X (undo)”.
As you can see the alert/message stays there for about 30 seconds and during all that time there is no way for me to move the video forward or backward etc because the video control bar is behind this alert/message.
The same thing is true if the tab has any menu or controls at the bottom of the site (such as twitter/x). I cannot click anything at the bottom for about 30 seconds, until that alert goes away.
It’s very frustrating.
While swipping away the alert may be a solution, it may not be very intuitive or easy to discover by most users. Maybe changing the alert position to be higher, or at least adding an “x/close” icon to it may be more straightforward.
