File upload impossible

Hello,
I found here issues with file downloads, but not only this :

Its NOT POSSIBLE to attach files to emails , no mater which platform, I am using proton mail but noticed with gmail the same prob, the later said error, 0 bit in attachment, which isn’t true.
I using Linux Kubuntu

Also brave fooled me a long time when I’ve tried to upload files on job portals …

Bad bad bad . . . . I am quite upset, lost a lot of time, consider brave as good alternative to ff but that’s gone. . . *

@askomo,
If you’re still using the browser I"m more than happy to help troubleshoot the issue with you. We’ll need the Brave version you’re using when you see this issue, as well as whether or not you have any extensions installed at this time.

Further, it’d be good to know whether or not you’re able to upload files on other sites — for example, can you try uploading an image (perhaps a simple screenshot of this page) to this thread here using the upload button (shown below)?

Thanks@ Mattches,
I am using the german version. To my surprise this upload wa working :slight_smile:

So then the issue is not specific to uploading files, just files on the sites you’ve been trying which appear to be email clients.

Have you tried clearing cache/data for those sites and then trying to upload again? You can do this by visiting either site, clicking the “tune” icon on the left-hand side of the address bar, then Site settings --> Delete data.

Reload the site and test again and see if you’re able to upload file attachments.

Hello.

I think that would be an assumption of what the user is experiencing on your part. There could be another reason it worked that time. Assumptions are not useful.

I also experience this issue. Brave is the only program on my platform which exhibits this behaviour.

I wonder if there is something going on with window order and if Brave is using strange window management routines which breaks the window stack.

I just had a dialogue pop to the top after trying to move the Brave window.

Highly irregular and not expected behaviour. Strange that your devs have not experienced this.

Which ever way, this needs fixing as a matter of basic functionality.

Please, instruct me as to how I can gather debugging information for this issue.

Many thanks.

@another_user_acount ,
The best way to “debug” this information would be to find out how and where the issue is reproduced. Further, it would be helpful to know what OS and Brave version you’re using, as well as which specific sites you’re seeing this issue on.

Thank you for your help.

It occurs when I try to upload stuff to Facebook, upload or download to/from WhatsApp Web (web.whatsapp.com), download my firewall’s config, even when I accidentally pressed Ctrl-S.

It’s whenever it opens a file dialogue, the web site doesn’t seem to matter.

This doesn’t occur with any other application or browser on my system.

It is replicable 100% of the time.

The window doesn’t appear to respond to any click in it’s expected location. Pressing escape doesn’t close the invisible window.

When I change application or click on the title bar, it appears.

Thank you for replying so quickly.

So if you click to upload/downloads something, you don’t see the window that would allow you to choose where to save a file or what file to upload? But the window does appear if you click on the the title bar?

If this is the case then it sounds like window you need is appearing behind the main browser window you have open. So if you go to upload a file, for example, and then use Ctrl + Tab to switch windows, are you able to have that file selection box brought to the front?

That is correct, yes. It opens behind the main Brave window.

Ctrl + Tab does nothing.

The save window doesn’t seem to be the next window in the stack. In fact, I have to Alt-Shift-Tab to go backwards. It appears to be opened at the bottom of the window stack.

If I just Alt-Tab, I have to go all the way round before I get to it.
