Favicon unavailable when opening a tab on a website

Description of the issue: Favicon is not displayed when we click a link on a site and a new group tab is created. For example, I accessed a link here from the community, which leads to github.

Brave Version( check About Brave): 1.71.121

@Mattches it can be seen that the favicon is missing, only a circle with a white background remains. I also specify that I see that only on a dark theme is this noticeable. Possibly from the github site and the favicon is updated for the dark theme ? Can you check and pass it on?

It looks like this is a Github issue, as I can reproduce the issue in Chrome as well, Kiwi and Edge browser as well. I suppose it could be an upstream Chromium issue since the favicon does appear in light mode themes.

I’ll forward the information but ultimately I’m not convinced there’s a ton we can do directly on this issue.

@Mattches favicon appears in group and tab selector. It seems to be a bug, as sometimes the favicon appeared in that place too, but most of the time it is not visible, as I reported.

I caught the moment when the favicon appeared, but it disappears immediately after:

@Mattches I also noticed by pressing the shield button, the YouTube favicon is not displayed. Can you pass on these 2 errors?

As I stated above, I believe these are site issues or perhaps Chromium issues, not Brave issues. The same thing occurs on all the browsers mentioned above and is likely something that will need to be fixed upstream, given that it is a minor cosmetic issue.

For the Shields menu, many sites do not display the favicon — I am not sure what the logic behind this is but this is not unexpected behavior. I can pass this particular information onto the devs as a request to pull all favicons into the Shields menu but again, this is a very minor cosmetic issue so I cannot guarantee when it will get resolved.

Yes, I hope that any bugs are fixed so that Brave is the best browser. :innocent:
