"Failed-Network error" with every attempted download

Description of the issue:
I just got a new M1 Max MacBook Pro and installed Brave. I am getting a “Failed—Network error” message with every attempt to download a file. When I try to download the same file with Safari, it works just fine.

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. Click on a file download link
  2. The file appears in the bottom bar of the browser, but I immediately see a “Failed-Network error” message.

Expected result:
The file downloads

Brave Version( check About Brave):
1.41.96

A simple text file for you to download. The contents are one word: ‘test’

A very simple PDF file for testing, courtesy of W3C. No SPACE characters in the PDF filename:

Brave was able to download these files.

Come to think of it, all of the files that are failing in Brave but working in Safari are .dmg files. I’m installing software on my new MacBook Pro so I’m downloading a bunch of these.

Looking around for a small ‘.dmg’ file for testing . . .

Pure-Mac website has been around for some time. The site has a list of utilities that you might use on a Mac.

One of the utilities, that will download as a small ‘.dmg’ file, found:

Sysquake

Download the 3.1MB ‘.dmg’ file from the developer’s website:

Testing to see if the size of the ‘.dmg’ file, is an issue. The download will take only a few seconds.
