Problem description: Today I opened Brave and all the extensions disappeared except for an adblock extension that I never had. When I try to install the extensions again, I get a text box saying the installation is not active.
Steps to Reproduce :
1.Open brave and notice all extensions are gone;
2.Try to download any other extension
Actual Result (gifs and screenshots are welcome!):Instalation gets an error
Expected result:it installs the extension
Reproduces how often:everytime i click “add to brave”
Operating System and Brave Version: Windows 11/Brave version:1.75.180
Notes: Whenever I reinstall Brave, the extensions come back, but when I turn off the PC and turn it on again, the extensions disappear again
I did so many things so i dont know what worked but what I think worked was going to “C:\Windows\System32\drivers\etc”, edit the “hosts” file and deleted everything below

This sounds like malware of some kind that you both picked up. Would it be possible to see the logo of the extension that was installed without permission (and the name of the extension)?
Yeah this is very likely malware of some kind. Run a deep AV scan and make sure you get that extension removed from your system asap. Here is another user who encountered teh exact same issue in Chrome:
I would recommend researching the issue/virus and finding a way to ensure that the extension is removed and any/all traces of it are wiped from your system. This may include uninstalling the browser and deleting all user data.
