Extension support

I am previously used the kiwi browser on my android it was too a chromium browser. It also has the facility to add extensions to the browser. But when I switched to BRAVE I cannot able to add extension. Please implement the extension facility on android as early as possible. We are waiting.

Developers will introduce support for extensions when required Chromium upstream changes happen. You can follow the whole thing on Github.

We need this so bad, it would be freaking amazing.

Wish they would implement this.

Currently using Kiwi for this purpose when using some scripts I made for the Tampermonkey extension.

Also enabling devtools would be nice.

I just read through all of the github thread on this, as well as the discussions from the chromium devs on their discussion boards. I see itā€™s been complicated for various reasons, but considering its literally being done by other browsers like Kiwi, its amazing Brave has not worked this into the schedule yet.

If there is any update, can we please hear from someone on the dev team that itā€™s at least in the works by now?

More important and related to OPā€™s topic:

timestamped video to hear it all for yourself would be

Iā€™m very curious why a lot of people use Firefox. Even when I would sometimes, rarely use Microsoft Explorer then Edge I still stayed with using Chrome until I found Brave. With Brave I didnā€™t have to worry about extensions orngoing into any types of settings to change something I didnā€™t like. Everything is running nice and smoothly. I use Brave and DuckDuckGo as my search engine.
Donā€™t get me wrong, I still have Chrome installed and sometimes look at the different results Iā€™ll get from the two different engines.
But I have found Firefox interesting for years but I am curious why users like that broswer over others. And if I did give it a shot, do you have any suggestions, as something you always do on a fresh reinstall. Thanks a lot in advance and hope to hear back from you or anyone on this subjects. Take care

But still limited to a handful of ad-ons.

+10 on this. I found the home page irritating and distracting. I actually just click to my own website to access frequent links and functions that are common in nearly all other browsers. Chrome and Google are the epitome of bloatware, disrespect for users and contempt for common people. They ooze commercialisation and power elite in all they do. I canā€™t believe we put so much effort into keeping M$ from a monoply and promoting Linux while Google got a pass on anything humble.
Brave has so much potential to be the browser of everyday people while ABC Corp literally became EVIL.

Hi
I saw posts from about a year ago saying that addons on Android are in work. Is there a more recent update on when this feature is expected to be released ?

thanks !

Not sure where you saw that but from my understanding, itā€™s not really being worked on. Essentially youā€™ll have seen things like:

To which they said:

We have no current commitment to ship add-on support but we continue to be interested in it and weā€™d like to support it.

Much of what they would need is for Chromium or Chrome projects to add it. Instead, weā€™re looking at seeing the opposite, of them pulling away from extensions/add-ons.

As for Brave, they just are working on adding requested features into the browser so that extensions arenā€™t needed. We have playlist out for iOS and should be coming to Desktop and Android before long. Thereā€™s Shields for adblocking, password manager, sync, news, wallet, etc.

@popo128 Just was able to talk about it in todayā€™s Community Call. We were fortunate enough that Brendan Eich was on and answered about it. The short version is that they are still looking for options but thereā€™s nothing immediate.

To put things in my own words:

Google butchered Chromium to not allow extensions on Mobile. It would be a lot of work to try to create something and add it.

Kiwi browser was able to do it by using older Chromium, but then thereā€™s potential security issues. They are trying to extend life but eventually will hit an end where the security vulnerability is too much of a risk, so Brave doesnā€™t want to go that route.

He explained much better, but thatā€™s basically how Iā€™m able to phrase it for the time being. When they get the recording from the call up, I may link it here so you can hear the response yourself.

hello @popo128, thank you for bringing it up. We are always working to improve Brave. Unfortunately addons or extensions are not supported yet for mobile devices, you can visit our feature request forum to find more topics about this:

Firefox Nightly allows the use of many Desktop addons. Kiwix Browser, based on Chromium Mobile does the same. Not all Addons work perfectly, but at least there are some like

  • Noscript
  • LibRedirect (.crx)

If you implement these features, maybe its okay without support. Because I have to say, the browsers are awesome at implementing all the 3rd Party extensions Firefox would need.

Still, Kiwix has some experimental support which works fine. Its just not a privacy browser, and I would like to have Brave mobile, to sync my Passwords e.g.
