Current places to find extensions/addons for browsers

  1. Chrome Web Store
  2. Mozilla

Others:

  1. Microsoft Edge Store
  2. Addoncrop
  3. Random Github repos
  4. Others that are so few or so small not even worth listing

99% of users use 1. & 2.

Problems

  • Mozilla/Google dominancy
  • Extension developers must comply with Mozilla/Google rules to list extensions on their stores
  • Good privacy respecting addons/extensions are advertised along malicious extensions

Solution?

An alternative addon repository not controlled by big tech.

What I envision is basically the equivalent of what F-Droid has accomplished for Android applications but for browser extensions.

Question

Does this already exist? Surely this idea has already been proposed by someone somewhere?
