Exit from full screen mode

Description of the issue:

Exiting full screen mode requires extra step

How can this issue be reproduced?

  1. On youtube, play a video
  2. Enter full screen mode using the ‘square’ icon
  3. play video, covering entire screen
  4. end full screen mode using the X widget
  5. the screen changes to small video with sidebarv but still in full screen
  6. press X again, or hold escape key

Expected result:
The screen used to return directly to the same mode as it was in before entering full screen. Now it requires an additional step though it can be one of a few methods.

Additional Information:

This started for me in the middle of last year. It occurs on most video sites, particularly youtube but I’v e occasional found some that work correctly.

Originally I could only restore normal operation by closing full screen twice, but a prompt has recently appeared suggesting closing by holding escape down. This suggest it’s a known problem but is a poor solution, as escape eventually autorepeats causing screen size to oscillate.

What actually causes this ? Previous searches here only turned up suggestions from some years ago to restart Brave, which didn’t work. The recent ‘hold escape down’ instruction suggests someone somewhere knows it doesn’t work properly but I don’t know if it’s Brave, Youtube or Chromium at fault.

Maybe it’s even intended operation but it’s hard to understand why it would be desirable.
