When I click on email addresses, I’d like to them to open in Gmail so I can compose a message. Currently when I click an address a blank tab opens. I’ve gone to brave://settings/handlers and there are no handlers listed for me change
I check after every Brave update if this was a bug that needed fixing, I get the same result.
I’m running Windows 11 224H2 and Brave Version 1.78.97 Chromium: 136.0.7103.93 (Official Build) (64-bit)
Any suggestions?
You should be prompted by the browser to make gmail your default email handler when you visit the site:

I’ve never seen that prompt. Just a blank page when I click the email address.
If you visit and login to gmail or whatever email client you use right now in Brave, you should see that prompt. Can you please test and confirm whether or not that is the case?
I’m logged into gmail in Brave all the time. I click on an email link and a blank page opens up. In the address bar is mailto:(email address)?
@captain_astronaut, do not click an email address. Instead of doing that:
- In Brave, go to https://gmail.com
- When the site loads, look in the address bar
- You should see an icon, similar to the one in the image I shared above
- Click that icon, and select
Allow
- Refresh the page
Now when you click on an email address/mailto link – it should open in gmail in Brave.
Yeah! There was a double diamond icon I clicked on and then saw the popup to allow the handler. None of my Google searches ever mentioned this.
Thank you so much.
