Ed2k => about:blank?

Hello,

I’ve been a very happy brave user for quite long and i just had the surprise to get an about:blank page when trying to open a ed2k link.

This kind of regression is not a pleasant user experience.
I spent some time on gg trying to find a solution, i disabled the brave shields with no success. So after having lost quite some time, here am i, having to create an account on yet another forum to ask about a regression.

Can i do anything about that ? Will it be fixed in a forthcoming version, or is Brave forever blocking ed2k links ?

Thanks
Cedric

I occasionally encounter “about:blank” webpages, that result from a messed up re-direct attempt.

The destination webpage, usually has a URL address (domain name), that is a source for a javascript that needs to be approved, before another attempt.

Let us say that your website of interest, is:

In a Brave Browser New Window, go to:

brave://settings/cookies

Scroll down that settings page, to Sites that can always use cookies

Click the Add button

Enter [*.]website_of_interest.com as the site . . . but do not Enable the following:

  • Current Private session only
  • Including third-party cookies on this site

Click the Add button

Next, go to:

brave://settings/content/javascript

Scroll down that javascript settings page to Allowed to use javascript

Click the Add button

Enter [*.]website_of_interest.com as the site . . . but do not Enable the following:

  • Current Private session only

Click the Add button

What you should see (and Brave did remove the “Sites that can always use cookies” selection in the following window):

So, if you cannot find in the general settings, the “Sites that can always use cookies” selection, then Brave probably now expects users to manage the Shields (the icon) settings when visiting a website.
