Drag and Drop Bookmarking hassle after Omnibox flags removed

Bookmarks showing HTTPS link instead of the name of the tab as the name for the bookmark.

How can this issue be reproduced?:

Attempting to bookmark a web page by dragging the URL and dropping it into the toolbar or folder on the toolbar will cause the name of the bookmark to be the HTTPS link instead of the summary that shows up on a Tab like it usually is.

Expected result:

It would be great if there was a way to resolve this issue without having to click on the URL a bunch to switch it to the HTTPS link and dragging that so the bookmark displays properly.

Brave Version:

[Version 1.1.22 Chromium: 79.0.3945.79 (Official Build) (64-bit)]

Additional Information:

I’m not sure if the omnibox https flag removal is what is directly causing this, I just know that for me the only way for a drag and drop bookmark to display correctly was to convert it to its https address by unhiding it first.

@Mahar,
Thanks for reaching out to us.
So I’m seeing some wonky behavior surrounding this action. When dragging the URL into the bookmarks bar, I get varying results.

Using Reddit – it appears that the bookmark takes the title of the tab when the URL highlighted is the full URL, it works as intended, but the shortened URL displays as you describe:

Then I went to test other pages – below is our Help Center website – and in this case, the bookmark seems to keep the proper title regardless:

Then, went to test wired.com and got the same results as on Reddit:

So I’m not entirely sure why, but it seems to vary by site. I’ve reached out to a couple of our web devs to see if they have any input on why this may be happening.

Thanks a lot for looking into it for me! Please let me know if there’s anything else I can do to help with this.

Another thing I noticed is if I go to a bookmarked page and then make a new bookmark of the page, youtubes home page for instance, it will display properly. On the other hand, if I were to go to a random video i haven’t watched before and then try bookmarking the problem is much more likely to happen when bookmarking that page.
