Downloaded file replaced existing file of same name without warning

bug

#1

I had a file in my downloads folder called domains.csv. I went to download a new version of that file from my website and expected to get the usual system save dialog since a name collision would be found, but instead the file simply downloaded and immediately replaced the existing version. Never seen this behavior in any other browser and I’m pretty sure it’s not desirable. Reproduces every time I do it.

Yeah, you certainly should be seeing something more like this :

What save mechanism did you use? Was it a download button on a page or File -> Save Page As… or right-click Safe Link As…?

#5

It’s a button like so:

Since the inspector doesn’t allow me to copy code, here’s a screenshot:

In Opera it also automatically downloads, but appends a number to the file like so:

That’s the standard behavior I would expect, either that or prompted to rename.

#6

Isn’t it related to this issue?

Brave should save and change the file name/appends a number to the file name.

#7

Aha! Yes I’d say it’s the exact same issue. Didn’t see it as the description confused me a bit. Good to see it’s already being tracked.

#8

Thanks for confirming, @scoiner. I added your comment to the GH issue.
